IsraAID – Seeking Japan Country Director

IsraAID, an Israel-based humanitarian aid agency, is looking for a Country Director to coordinate and implement the organization’s projects in Tohoku, Japan.

This position is an exciting opportunity to get hands-on experience in non-profit project management in Asia, and lead innovative grass-roots activities in the field. The ideal candidate will combi...ne experience in humanitarian aid and management/administration, and be willing to relocate to Sendai, Japan.

Responsibilities:
1.Manage and direct all aspects of IsraAID’s Japan projects, including staff oversight, development of the Japan IsraAID Support Program, board development, and organizational strategy.

2.Coordinate the implementation of IsraAID’s 3 Japan projects – Healing Japan, Voices of Tohoku, and Tohoku – Looking to the Future, all in tandem with IsraAID staff in Japan.

3.Maintain regular communication with the head office in Israel, as well as existing and potential donors;

4.Manage the logistics, finances, and general administration of IsraAID’s Japan project, including but not limited to: building work plans, organizing workshops, accompanying IsraAID’s trainers in the field, book keeping, reporting, documentation, organizing and leading workshops and high-level meetings.

This position will report directly to the Executive Director of IsraAID Israel with oversight from the Japanese board of directors. It will require someone with the skill to manage between two separate boards of directors and to coordinate and align the priorities.

Requirements:
1. At least 3 years of experience in non-profits, specifically in development/ humanitarian work;
2. Experience in grant writing/ book keeping/Administration;
3. Native English speaker, Hebrew is an advantage;
4. Previous knowledge of the Japanese language and culture will be a distinct advantage;
5. 15-month commitment;
6. Be legally employable in the State of Israel and own a bank account.
Additional Information:
1.Relocation to Japan, and living in IsraAID’s volunteer house in Sendai, Japan;
2.The job includes frequent travel to Tokyo, as well as other parts of Japan;
3.IsraAID will cover all living expenses including: Flights to Israel (twice a year), accommodation, transportation and food;
4.The position has a 15-month contract with the first 3-months as a probationary period.

About the program:
IsraAID’s program in Japan started 4 days after the Tsunami, and includes Post trauma training, Youth Leadership and Voices of Tohoku- a life story documentation project. Currently, IsraAID is working in 10 cities across Japan and working with 15 local groups including: Teachers, NGO's, Social workers, youth, local governments and corporate partners such as Hilton and HP-Asia.
